This is the point most material selections get wrong. A plucking finger, a pump rotor or a machine seal in a food plant spends its working hours in contact with fat, protein and mechanical load — and then, every single day, gets washed with hot caustic followed by acid, sometimes above 80 °C.
The two duties want opposite compounds. Nitrile handles animal fat and oil well and is degraded quickly by strong caustic. EPDM shrugs off caustic, acid and steam, and swells in fat. Choosing for one and ignoring the other is why parts that look correct on paper come back after three months.
Getting this right is a formulation decision, not a catalogue decision. Because we mix our own compounds, we can weight the formulation toward the duty that is actually killing the part — and adjust it again if the plant changes its cleaning regime.

Many parts in this sector exist in one plant and nowhere else, often as a fix for a machine no longer supported by its manufacturer. We work from a drawing, a worn sample, or the failed part itself.
Elastobras produces components to customer specification for equipment used in food and agricultural processing. We do not currently hold food-contact conformity certification, and we do not claim compliance with EC 1935/2004, FDA or equivalent frameworks.
Where a part requires certified food-contact material, tell us at the enquiry stage so that we can say plainly whether we are the right supplier for it. We would rather lose an enquiry than have a customer discover the gap during an audit.
If a component is failing earlier than it should, send the failed part with the working conditions — temperature, media, cleaning chemistry and frequency, load, cycle rate. The failure mode usually tells us more about the right compound than the original drawing does.
